Value based care and interoperability Vicky Gregg helps guide Acadia Healthcare

Vicky Gregg, Acadia Healthcare director and veteran healthcare executive, continues to shape the industry through a mix of board leadership and strategic advisory work. Her career, which began as a nurse at Erlanger Regional Medical Center, has spanned direct patient care, hospital administration, long-term care and health plan executive roles.

Gregg led BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee as chief executive from 2003 to 2012, after serving as president, chief operating officer and head of the company’s Medicaid managed care operation. Under her tenure the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation was established in 2003 and she championed early population health models that emphasized prevention and life-course management of patient populations.

Before joining BCBST, she held senior positions at Humana, overseeing operations, strategic development and acquisitions. In the private sector she is a cofounder and partner of Guidon Partners, an investor and consultant to privately held healthcare companies. She was non-executive chair at TriZetto Corporation until its 2014 sale to Cognizant.

Gregg’s governance roles are extensive. She has served on national bodies including America’s Health Insurance Plans, the BlueCross BlueShield Association and the National Institute for Healthcare Management, where she held the chair. She was appointed to the U.S. National Institutes of Health Commission on Systemic Interoperability by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and has held board seats with First Horizon National Corporation and TeamHealth Holdings, among others.

In recent years Gregg has been sought after for regional and corporate board positions. She is a director at Acadia Healthcare, a board member of Erlanger Health System and serves on the boards of Quest Diagnostics and the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga. Her role in Erlanger’s conversion to a 501(c)(3) governance structure and continued service on the Erlanger Health Board reflect an ongoing commitment to expanding access to care in her community.

Her contributions have been recognized by induction into the Tennessee Health Care Hall of Fame and frequent citations as a national healthcare champion. With a blend of executive experience, clinical roots and board-level oversight, Gregg remains an influential voice in efforts to reform and strengthen the U.S. healthcare system.
