Kelcy Warren’s Historic Gift Propels UTA into a New Era of Energy Engineering

Kelcy Warren, a notable alumnus of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and executive chairman of Energy Transfer LP,
has paved the way for a transformative period in the institution’s history.
Warren’s recent donation of $12 million marks the largest single philanthropic
contribution UTA has ever received, aimed specifically at advancing the
university’s burgeoning resource and energy engineering program.

The gift signifies a major push toward positioning UTA at the forefront of energy engineering
education. As the demand for skilled professionals in energy resource
management escalates, Warren’s support will significantly enhance faculty and
research capabilities. This generous contribution will fund the newly
introduced bachelor’s degree in resource and energy engineering, providing
students with unparalleled opportunities for academic and career advancements.

In recognition of Kelcy Warren’s substantial investment, UTA plans to establish several endowed
positions and facilities. These include the Kelcy Warren Endowed Professorship
and two endowed faculty fellowships, which will attract and retain
distinguished educators and researchers. Furthermore, the donation will finance
the creation of cutting-edge laboratory spaces and a career experience center,
designed to facilitate experiential learning through internships and co-op programs.

The impact of Kelcy Warren’s donation extends beyond infrastructure and faculty development. It
will provide substantial scholarship and fellowship support to students, aptly
named Kelcy Warren Scholars and Warren Fellows. This financial assistance
is poised to ease the educational journey for many, drawing a talented cohort
of future engineers to the university.

UTA’s President, Jennifer Cowley, emphasized the significance of the gift, noting its potential
to redefine the university’s standing in the national landscape of energy
engineering education. Warren, having been an influential figure in the energy
sector, continues to demonstrate his unwavering commitment to fostering the
next generation of industry leaders, solidifying UTA’s role as a vital
contributor to this rapidly evolving field. Refer to this article to learn more.
