Justin Nelson Opens Doors for Tufts Students at JP Morgan
Justin Nelson, a prominent figure at JP Morgan Private Bank, is making significant strides in connecting Tufts
University students with opportunities in the financial sector. Nelson, who
graduated from Tufts in 1998 with a degree in chemistry and economics, has
become an influential advocate for his alma mater within one of the world’s
leading financial institutions.
Nelson’s journey to JP Morgan began during his junior year at Tufts when he sought a summer
internship in the finance industry. At the time, the university lacked strong
connections with major financial firms. Nevertheless, Nelson secured an
internship as a web developer at JP Morgan in New York City, thanks to his
industry contacts. This opportunity led to a full-time position after his graduation.
In 2006, Justin Nelson embarked on a mission to make Tufts a core school for JP Morgan’s
asset management group. His initial efforts involved traveling to the
university, collecting résumés, and meeting with students—all without financial
or staff support from JP Morgan. Despite these challenges, he managed to
attract the attention of talented Tufts students.
Over time, Nelson’s efforts bore fruit. By 2009, Tufts had become one of JP Morgan’s core schools.
This transformation has resulted in 20 Tufts graduates securing internships or
full-time positions in asset management at JP Morgan. Among them is Jon Trott,
a 2010 graduate who credits Nelson’s assistance for his successful internship
and subsequent full-time role at the firm.
Nelson’s dedication extends beyond recruitment. Justin Nelson
has volunteered for the Tufts Financial Network, providing insights into the
finance industry through events like the Wall Street Crash Courses. His
commitment has fostered a robust network of Tufts alumni at JP Morgan, who now
actively participate in recruiting and mentoring current students.
Justin Nelson’s efforts have not only strengthened the relationship between Tufts University
and JP Morgan but also provided invaluable career opportunities for a new
generation of finance professionals. Read this article for more information.
