Alumnus Kelcy Warren Makes Historic $12 Million Gift to UTA for Resource and Energy Engineering
Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Energy Transfer LP, Kelcy Warren, has
made a transformative $12 million philanthropic investment to the University of
Texas at Arlington (UTA), marking the largest single gift in the university’s
history. This generous donation will support the growing field of resource and
energy engineering (REE) and elevate UTA to the forefront of this industry.
As a distinguished alumnus of UTA, Kelcy
Warren recognizes the pivotal role the institution played in his own educational and
professional journey. He believes that Texas is in critical need of highly
skilled graduates who can effectively manage energy resources, and this
innovative REE program will help meet that demand.
To acknowledge Warren’s incredible generosity, UTA will name three endowed REE academic
positions, as well as dedicated laboratory space, a career experience center,
and scholarship/fellowship recipients in his honor. This funding will also
provide research opportunities for undergraduate engineering students.
The $12 million gift will have a profound impact on UTA’s REE program, including the creation
of the Kelcy Warren Endowed Professorship in Resource and Energy Engineering.
This distinguished faculty position will attract and retain world-class experts
to lead the program and provide students with exceptional educational experiences.
Additionally, the gift will establish two Kelcy Warren Endowed Faculty Fellowships to further enhance the REE program’s
educational offerings. It will also support state-of-the-art laboratory
facilities and equipment, ensuring that faculty and students have access to
cutting-edge resources for addressing today’s most pressing energy challenges.
The Kelcy Warren Career Experience Center will provide valuable opportunities for engineering
undergraduates to engage in experiential learning, including internships and
co-ops. Scholarship and fellowship support will be provided to REE
undergraduate and graduate students, named respectively as Kelcy Warren Scholars and Kelcy Warren Fellows, to help them pursue
their educational goals and prepare for successful careers in the energy industry.
UTA plans to launch the REE bachelor’s degree program in the fall of 2023, making it the first of
its kind in the United States. This program will equip students with the
necessary skills to apply engineering principles to the design, development,
and evaluation of energy generation, storage, conversion, and distribution
systems. By merging engineering and business interests, graduates will be
well-prepared to make immediate contributions to the dynamic energy sector.
Kelcy Warren’s unprecedented gift exemplifies his commitment to the future of Texas and the
potential of its students. UTA expresses deep gratitude for his visionary
philanthropy, which will establish the university as a national leader in
resource and energy engineering. This historic investment will forever shape
the landscape of UTA and leave a lasting legacy at Warren’s alma mater. See related link for more information.
